The Reno Rodeo

If you’ve never experienced the excitement of a live rodeo, you’ve been missing out. From its humble beginnings as a local ranch hand competition back in 1919 to one of the country's premier events, the Reno Rodeo has captivated audiences with nail-biting, boot-stomping, flag-waving, crowd-pleasing, high-stakes athleticism. There is no other sport where the stars of the show are the contestants, the livestock, and a handful of entertaining, not to mention life-saving clowns! From broncs to team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding, the rodeo embodies the essence of the American West. There’s no lack of grit from these modern-day cowboys and cowgirls.

Although you may not think of the word “glamorous” to describe a rodeo, you’ll change your mind when the stunning Rodeo Court enters the arena, flags unfurled, gently loping to the National Anthem, before kicking into an all-out run as the anthem hits the crescendo. I swear, your heart will burst with patriotic pride.

The Reno Rodeo isn’t just about the competition, it’s a full-fledged festival with something for everyone. Enjoy live music, delicious food, exhilarating carnival rides, and exhibitions that offer a glimpse into the Western way of life.

Dubbed the “Richest Rodeo in the West” for its over $2,000,000 in prize money, you can also get in on the winnings without risking your life. Register to compete in the cornhole tournament Friday, June 23rd, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entry fee is $100. Or perhaps the Reno Rodeo Fashion Show is more your speed. Buy your tickets at the door on Saturday, June 24th at 10 a.m. If you are looking for a VIP experience, grab a front-row seat with complimentary mimosas and snacks for $40.

Get your carnival food cravings fulfilled with all your favorite fare like corn dogs, Texas Taters, Kick-Ass fries, funnel cake, and fresh squeezed lemonade. The carnival itself runs through Saturday, June 24th. Purchase a wristband in advance for $32, or grab one the day of your visit for $40. Individual ride tickets are also available for $6. Additional discounts can be found on “Family Day” Monday, June 19th, and “Buddy Day” on Wednesday, June 21st.

And for the grownups, you don’t need a ticket to the rodeo to partake in the fun. Check out the Jack Daniel’s Tent and Coors Double R Bar for Country music, dancing, and all your favorite beverages. Patrons must be at least 21 to enter. Open from 4 pm to midnight every night.

So grab your Wranglers, pull on your boots, and dust off that cowboy hat you’ve been waiting to wear, then head on out for a bit of history and a whole lot of fun!

This year the rodeo is set to take place from June 15th to June 24th at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center.
